    Brandon Charles Coleman,

Greetings! Just joined this site in search of my family history. I have the American side of the Colemans wrapped up but need to find our origin, which came from Ireland. Can anyone help me find a connection to my 2nd Great Grandfather? His name was Dennis Joseph "DJ" Coleman. He was born August 1, 1844 in County Cork, Ireland. He arrived in Galveston, TX in 1868 where he was a bootmaker. He applied for US Naturalization in September of 1871 and married Carolena Caroline "Carrie" Dischinger two months later. He received official US Naturalization in October 1872. His first son, Charles WIlliam Coleman, was born in 1874 in Galveston, TX. He moved to Beaumont, TX in 1879 where he had his second son, Dennis Joseph Coleman, Jr, who was born in 1882 in Beaumont. He passed in 1899.

Hi Scott.  I think we have the same ancestor Adam Coleman of Tigroney Co Wicklow who married Margret Curen (as written in the church register but might have been Curren or Curran) in 1853. Adam's mother was Mary Coleman who is buried in the Barranisky Old Cemetery near Castle Macadam not far from Tigroney; Only Adam is mentioned on her tombstone.  I do not know anything else about Adam's ancestors.

Looking for traces in Ireland of Patrick Coleman, born in 1846 in Boyle, Roscommon, to Bridget Conlon, age 32, and Thomas Coleman, age 27. He migrated to Leeds, UK where he married Catherine Mulrannen who came from Mayo

My mother’s mother came from Ireland in the early 1900s. She was a Coleman. Her father’s name was Dennis Coleman. She had about 9 brothers and sisters but she was the only one that moved to Canada as a girl in her late teens. Some of her brothers and maybe a sister settled in Chicago. I’m not certain, but I think the Coleman’s were from Tipperary county. In Canada, she married Thomas Skelly from Adjala township in Ontario, Canada. I am trying to connect with my many second cousins that I must have in Ireland somewhere.

Slainte, My maternal grandmother's name was Rebecca Coleman. We know that a possible entry point was in the Virginia area in the 1700's. I am doing some research on this. A strange occurrence has taken place. If a person heard my speech patterns, they might strongly think I was from the County Sligo area. My temperament is a bit Irish, with a Scottish Brock thrown in for good measure. Raynors of some spelling has been noted in the records of Salisbury Cathedral. I feel like a rather confused and lost goose. Wondering if home might be in Ireland and a wanderin' Celtic woman might find a friendly hearth.

(Part 1 of 3) The Coleman name has a long history in Ireland, but now DNA and some recorded history says its origin is from the south-west region of the Emerald Island. The Coleman story [dominated by DNA tribal marker R1b-L513, Subgroup O2] can trace their beginnings to what is now County Kerry from 50 BCE. Perhaps the journey begins with the Clanna Dedad; Deda, son of Sen or Deda Mac Sin. The Coleman surname origin is possibly a branch of what will become the Dáirine [R1b-L513] who are found in south Ireland around 300 CE.

    Anthony Barrett

(Part 2 of 3) According to research, the Dáirine will join with the Dál Riata of north-east Ireland and invade Scotland around 500 CE. But how could this be? Recent discoveries from DNA testing are unlocking the migration patterns of Celtic tribes as late as 800 CE to 1200 CE. The Coleman story begins in pre-history Ireland but many of his descendants will then move to Kintyre, Scotland where they and other R1b-L513 members will form the Dalriada. This line and many of his kin will then travel to Brittany, France during the Dark Ages.

From the ebook, “The Tribe Within” learn how DNA unfolds this amazing tale and if you look in the right places, how history narrates this evidence. machuisle, the Coleman name is extremely old in Ireland, coming from the personal name Colm or dove. This name was popular in early medieval Ireland, and no doubt gave rise to different septs of the name ? Colm?in found in the 16th century mainly in Cos Cork, Tipperary, Waterford, Dublin, Wexford, Meath, Longford, Roscommon and Cavan. There is a most noted sept recorded at Grangemore, Templeboy Parish, Co Sligo. This family were of the Ui Fiachrach.
