Drake Family History
This unusual and interesting name has two possible origins, the first and most generally applicable being of Anglo-Saxon origin, from the Olde English pre 7th Century byname or nickname "Draca", meaning "dragon" or "snake", in Middle English "Drake", Old Norse "Draki". The derivation for all these forms is from the Latin "draco", snake, or monster. As a nickname, it would presumably apply to someone formidable and fierce in battle, but it could also be a metonymic "occupational" surname for a standard-bearer, as in "Draker" (1260, Cambridgeshire). "Draca" was used in medieval England to mean a battle-standard as well as a dragon...Select Audience

Drake
On August 26, 1859, Col. Edwin Drake's water drilling crew in west-central Pennsylvania completed their work for that dayโthe drill had passed 69 feet (21 meters) into the ground. When work commenced on August 27, oil was found near the top of the drilling tube, and Drake was proven rightโhe was then the first person to successfully drill for oil.

I am trying to find information about Edward Drake. Born 1741 immigrated to United States from County Antrim, Ireland. Do not know the date of immigration. His wife's name is Mary Nancy Agnes born 1753. They immigrated with their son Charles. Some info of his parents does not make sense. I know for sure he was from Ireland. I know this is a long shot. Thanks for any lead and your time.

I am currently in search of any Drake relatives living in Ireland or around the world. My Great grandmother was Theresa Drake, she and her 4 sister travelled to South Africa at an early age and I was hoping there is someone out there who could give me a bit of my Ancestry history and if there is still family members around.
?I dont have much information but I do know my Great, great grandfather was somehow involved in the brandy business. This could possible be in the early 1900's. If there is anyone with any information please contact me. My email address is Fhanslo25@gmail.com and my number is +27 61 582 6698
Hope to hear from anyone
Thanks Farah??????
