HAMMOND Family History
Recorded as Armand, Hammand, Hammond, Hammant, Hammon and possibly others, this is a famous Anglo-French surname, but one which can be of early Norse-Viking or later French and German origins of which it has three. The first origin is from the Norse-Viking personal name Hamundr, meaning "High protection" and possibly introduced into Britain in about the 7th century. The second is also Norse-Viking and of the same period, but from Amundr, meaning "Ancester protection". Over the centuries the two forms became literally confused and fused. The third possible origin is arguably of German origin from the personal name Haimo meaning Home, but introduced as Hammant by the Norman French invaders of England in 1066...Select Audience

Hammond
Hammond brothers,- Michael, Thomas and James; - Likely born in southwestern Ireland-county Cork, possibly Kerry Head, further west of Cork, circa 1790's.
Arrived in Newfoundland in at around 1810.
Our branch of Hammond descends from Michael Hammond, who was married in Harbour Grace in 1817 to Margaret Morrissey, an Irish Catholic.
We have been unable to find a passenger ship manifest, with the names of any of the three brothers that had left Ireland in and around 1810 - give or take a few years.

HI
I am looking for details of Margaret Hammond. The information I have is that she was born in 1838 in Co Tyrone (although this changes by about 20yrs going through the census') She went to America and married my Gt Gt Grandfather George Minney and they had a daughter Susan born in1873 in Shoemakerville Pennsylvania. They returned to the UK in 1875. I do not know anything about her and would like to find out
many thanks
