This interesting surname is of French origin, and is an ethnic name for a Breton. The Bretons were originally Celts driven from South West England to North West France in the 6th Century by invading Anglo-Saxons. Some returned with the army of William the Conqueror in the Invasion of 1066, and many of those then settled in East Anglia where the English surname Brett is now widespread. Occasionally, the name may derive from the Celtic speaking people of Strathclyde, Scotland, who were known as "Bryttas" or "Brettas" until the 13th Century. Bob Brett
Hello, my name is Bob Brett, currently living outside Philadelphia. In January, 2024, I will be 70. I have been developing my family tree (of over 40k names) since 2000. I am descended from a John Brett of Sligo whose sons eventually emigrated to Rhode Island, where Thomas Brett was born in 1956. Thomas moved to Philadelphia, PA in the 1880's, married, had children, lived on Pulaski St in Germantown. I, myself am married with 6 children.
