This unusual name is of early medieval English origin, and is one of the diminutive forms of the surname developed from the personal name "David". This was adopted from the Hebrew male given name meaning "beloved", and was popular on a limited scale among European Christians during the Middle Ages, due largely to the fame of the biblical King David. Hello! My great grandmother, Mary Davey, was born in Sligo. She married Matthew Creighton and raised their family on Chapel Street. Though I have info on the Creightons, the Daveys are a mystery. Based on paternal naming patterns, loose DNA ties, and sponsor surnames, Mary's parents *may have been" Peter Davey and Margaret Cleary. But this is but a working theory...can't prove it! Any clues, please let me know -- and thank you!
