Keeler Family History
This unusual and interesting name is of Medieval English origin and is found particularly in the south east of England. It is an occupational surname for a boatman or boatbuilder, derived from the Middle English "Kele", meaning ship, or barge as in the "Keeler", a barge much used in the south and eastern regions for navigating shallow rivers. The Middle English word was influenced by the Old Dutch "Kiel", rather than directly deriving from the Olde English pre 7th Century "ceol". Anne Keeler was christened on the 10th March 1593 at Boughton under Blean, Kent and the marriage of Henry Keeler to Elizabeth Russell was recorded on the 15th January 1681 at St.Select Audience

Travis Cary Keeler
Hello My Fellow Keeler's! I am a "Canadian" Keeler who is searching for my ancestry in the "Old Country" so to speak. My paternal Grandfather was named John Keeler and was sent from England to a Canadian farm through an orphanage named "The Bernardo Home" (I believe..??..) the residents were apparently known colloquially as "Bernardo Boys". I am afraid I do not know much more than this. I would imagine that he came over in the early 1900's but do not have a whole lot of information unfortunately. If anyone knows anything with regard to this orphanage I would be very grateful for any further information. Thank you in advance.
