'M Shed' is the history museum of Bristol that tells the story of this fascinating city. It challenges the perceptions of what it has meant to live in Bristol over the centuries through the recollections of the people who shaped the city. Upon visiting you can explore over 2,000 years of Bristol’s history, access over 150 restored and digitalised films and uncover Bristol’s trading past and its role in the transatlantic slave trade. You can also explore the city’s war-time experiences, industrial heritage and engineering history, or discover famous items produced in Bristol, from its music and art, to industry and technology. They have over 3,000 objects from the city’s museum and archive collections including favourites from the former Industrial Museum.
M Shed’s biggest exhibits are outside and can be seen even when the museum is closed. These include four electric cranes, a steam crane, the Bristol harbour railway and three boats. On most weekends, they’re brought to life for trips and visits.
This is a clear '101-Must-Visit' location for Bristol, and England. If you plan ahead they will no doubt have a local, national of international exhibition on.
