A favourite of the locals – Jacka’s Bakery on the Plymouth Barbican is Britain’s oldest operating commercial bakery, dating back to early 1600. Legend has it that even the Pilgrim Fathers enjoyed some of their famous biscuits and took them aboard the Mayflower in 1620.
Today it's an award-winning bakery with a cosy café offering breakfast, lunch and takeaway options. It's still family-run and is a proud member of the Real Bread Campaign.
Be sure to try their freshly baked sourdough bread, criossants or cinnamon swirls which are baked fresh daily.
